Wethouder Miedema van de gemeente Franekeradeel heeft vrijdag in Franeker-Zuid de officiële handeling verricht voor de bouw van 32 huur- en koopwoningen van woningstichting Optimaal. Hiermee start woningstichting Optimaal de eerste bouwactiviteiten in het plangebied Franeker Zuid. In haar fabriek in Leeuwarden bouwt Bouwbedrijf Burggraaff de ruime prefab-woningen, die al over een paar weken worden geplaatst. In Franeker-Zuid worden in verschillende fasen, circa 625 woningen gebouwd. Het gaat dan om sociale huurwoningen, ééngezins koopwoningen, twee onder één kap woningen en vrijstaande woningen. Ook worden er veel particuliere bouwkavels uitgegeven. De wijk Franeker-Zuid ligt dicht bij het centrum van de academiestad en krijgt veel water en groen. Ook komt het in open vaarverbinding met het Van Harinxmakanaal te staan.
